My father recently retired his charred fire helmet.  Not knowing how to give him a quality display deserving of his continued years of hard work for the FDNY, my family turned to the Urban City Wood Shop.

The wood shop is run by local Astoria resident Matt Mastrorocco and his dad, Victor.  Their family started Urban City Bike Shelves and have recently branched out with The Cutting Board Project, transforming the leftover quality wood from the bike shelves into stylish cutting boards “made the old fashioned way”.

We surprised my dad with their beautifully crafted custom piece, made of Italian red cherry and white oak, which is now sitting proudly in our living room in Queens.
