By now you’ve probably heard about the bagel shop in Long Island City that transforms into a ramen shop every Tuesday through Saturday night. My go-to bagel shop, Bricktown Bagel, has been playing host to Mu Ramen, a pop-up shop started by Chef Josh Smookler, a Per Se and Bouley alum, and his wife Heidy.
Intrigued, we checked it out a few weeks ago on a freezing night around 8:30pm and were welcomed with warmth by Heidy, who made sure we tried the short rib steamed buns to start.

We ordered the traditional tonkotsu ramen ($15) and my personal favorite, the spicy miso ramen ($15), which comes with a thicker noodle and was deliciously (but not overwhelmingly) spicy.

They don’t take reservations, but you can head over at 6pm to put your name on the list for seating at the communal table which starts at 6:30pm. They’re open Tuesday-Saturday indefinitely until they can snag their own space (hopefully in LIC)!
