My visit to Nan Xiang Xiao Long Bao in Flushing reminded me how much I love soup dumplings AND how terrible I am at eating them. I always dive in thinking I’m going to master it and then BAM! Of course, the delicate dumpling skin is punctured and the broth drains everywhere before I even put it over the spoon. Such a sad moment until I nail the next one.
We ordered the steamed soup dumplings with pork (xiao long bao or steamed pork buns on the menu).
A friend suggested we also try the scallion pancake with sliced beef (under the breakfast section of the menu) which was definitely a great snack to share, especially if you love hoisin sauce. The server suggested we get the Shanghai fried udon to round out the meal.
