A Very Rockaway Baby Shower

The Beach Location

For my sister’s nautical themed baby shower in November, we picked the perfect spot: Community House (the old Irish Circle) in Rockaway.  Even though it was November, we were able to hold it in their expansive backyard (closed off for the winter) with heat lamps.  We had a buffet brunch with some yummy waffles, eggs and much more!

The “Stasi Cake”

It was only fitting to have the same cake we’ve had for all of the bride’s special occasions as a child, a Stasi Napoleon Cake.  If you’ve lived in Queens forever, then you know about the famous “Stasi Cake.”  Stasi Pastry shop was a little hole in the wall bakery (according to my mom) on 104th Street in Corona that specialized in napolean & rum cakes.

They closed years ago, HOWEVER, you can still get famous Stasi cake at Krystal’s Cafe, a Filipino restaurant and bakery in Woodside!  I believe they bought Stasi years ago or acquired some of their bakers.  I don’t have all the details on it, but the quality was still on point and was so great to have it after so many years.  All you have to do is stop into Krystal’s or call and ask for a special order of the Stasi Napolean sheet cake!

The Favors: Cake Pops

For party favors, I’m a big fan of giving out something edible or drinkable so we went the cake pop route made by Astoria baker, Marie Grech (Confections of a Baker). She made the MOST DELICIOUS cake pops and turned them into baby rattles.  We got a random assortment of chocolate, vanilla, and red velvet.  This is the second event that I’ve ordered cake pops from Marie and she doesn’t disappoint!
